Dates and the Ethiopian calendar

Your customers, suppliers and staff often use Ethiopian calendar dates. OLY ERP keeps all dates in one standard way so that reports, due dates and tax periods add up correctly. This page explains what that means for your daily work.

How dates are stored

  • OLY ERP stores every date as a standard (Gregorian) date, for example 2026-10-12.
  • In examples on these pages we write dates as YYYY-MM-DD.
  • Your user settings decide how a date is displayed (for example 12-10-2026 or 2026-10-12). The stored date is the same.
  • Because every document uses the same calendar, due dates, ageing reports and month-end closing work correctly.

Steps

Enter a date from an Ethiopian-calendar paper

  1. Look at the date on the paper, for example a supplier's delivery note or a payment receipt.
  2. Convert it to the Gregorian date. Use a reliable date converter or ask your accountant if you are not sure.
  3. Type or pick the Gregorian date in the date field, for example Posting Date.
  4. Write the original paper number in the remarks or reference field if your process needs it.

Check how dates are shown for you

  1. Click your user menu at the top right and click My Settings.
  2. Look at the date format setting. Your system admin may have set it for the whole company.

Showing Ethiopian dates

OLY ERP can show Ethiopian calendar dates in some places. What is shown, and where, depends on how your system is set up. Ask your OLY ERP consultant whether Ethiopian dates can be shown on your screens and printed documents, and how. Do not rely on Ethiopian dates appearing on a screen unless your consultant has confirmed it for your system.

Good to know

  • Always enter the correct Gregorian date. A wrong date can put an invoice in the wrong month or the wrong VAT period.
  • Ethiopian months do not start on the same day as Gregorian months. If your company reports by Ethiopian month, agree the exact date ranges with your accountant and use them as report filters.
  • Your Fiscal Year is set up with standard start and end dates. Your OLY ERP consultant sets this up during onboarding to match your company's year.
  • If a date looks wrong on a printed document, report it with the document number.
