Produce with a work order
A Work Order tells the factory to make a quantity of one product, using one BOM. It tracks what materials were issued, what was produced and what is still to come.
Before you start
- The product has a submitted, default BOM.
- The materials are in stock in the store, or will arrive before the run.
- Your consultant has set the default Work-in-Progress Warehouse and Target Warehouse for production.
Steps
1. Plan the run
- Go to Manufacturing > Work Order and click + Add Work Order.
- In Item To Manufacture, choose "Corn snack 50 g, cheese". The BOM No fills in from the default BOM.
- Enter Qty To Manufacture, for example 4,800 (100 cartons).
- Check the warehouses: Source Warehouse (where materials come from), Work-in-Progress Warehouse ("Work In Progress - EF") and Target Warehouse ("Finished Goods - EF").
- Enter the Planned Start Date.
- Check the Required Items table. OLY ERP has worked out the materials from the BOM.
- Click Save, then Submit. The status is Not Started.
2. Transfer materials to the line
- On the submitted work order, click Start.
- Confirm the quantity to transfer for. OLY ERP opens a Stock Entry of type Material Transfer for Manufacture.
- Abebe checks each row: item, quantity, source warehouse and batch. Change a batch if he is picking a different lot.
- Click Save, then Submit. Materials move to "Work In Progress - EF". The work order status becomes In Process.
3. Finish production
- When the run is done, open the work order and click Finish.
- Enter the quantity actually produced, for example 4,750 packs.
- OLY ERP opens a Stock Entry of type Manufacture. It shows the materials used (from Work In Progress) and the finished good row (into Finished Goods).
- Check the finished good row: quantity and batch. Check any scrap rows.
- Click Save, then Submit. Stock of finished packs goes up and materials go down.
Partial production
You do not have to finish the whole quantity at once.
- Click Finish with the quantity made so far, for example 2,400 on day one. The status stays In Process.
- Click Finish again for the rest on day two. When Manufactured Qty reaches Qty To Manufacture, the status becomes Completed.
- If you will not make the rest, use Status > Stop (can be re-opened) or Status > Close (final).
Good to know
- Always use Start and Finish on the work order. A plain stock transfer is not linked to the work order.
- If you issued more material than you used, return it to the store before you close the work order. Ask your consultant how your setup handles leftovers.
- If the BOM has operations, OLY ERP also creates Job Cards. Each step on the line is recorded on its Job Card.
- A work order linked to a Sales Order shows the customer it is for. You can create it from the sales order.
